Arne Esp is a fourth generation rancher, raised on his family’s ranch on the Crow Reservation in southeastern Montana. Fascinated as a kid by silver cowboy gear and rodeo buckles, in his early 20s, he acquired some basic tools and started experimenting in the bright-cut style of engraving. He’s self taught through trial and error, though he’s received tips and inspiration from other craftsmen too numerous to mention. His biggest breakthrough came at a TCAA engraving workshop in 2001. He still lives on the ranch with his wife Laura and daughter Shea, and divides his time between ranch work and silverwork.
