Carlos Figueroa was born in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico in 1876. He moved with his older brother, Jose (1880-1951) to Los Angeles in 1901. Both became highly accomplished bit and spurmakers though Jose sojourned to Elko, Nevada to work with G.S. Garcia while Jose remained independent opting to stay in the milder climate of Southern California. Carlos supplied many of the most prominent saddleries in California including the D.S. Wilson, Brydon Bros, Ed Bohlin, F.M. Stern and Visalia
