Xiang Zhang graduated with a bachelor of fine arts in set design from Central Academy of Drama in Beijing 1982 and a masters degree in fine art from Tulane University in New Orleans in 1989.
Zhang now focuses on his art full time in his studio in Texas. His color choices are scintillating and his bravura brushwork captures the drama of ranch life, the rodeo and Western life. His definitive style has catapulted him to new heights in the Western Art world. During the past several years, Zhang has expanded his paintings to include more historical depictions of the West, including a series on the Oklahoma land rush.
Zhang combines impressionistic and realistic techniques to tell the story of the West in his oil paintings. He is Signature Member of the Oil Painters of America.
Six of his paintings ere featured in the 2006 book Western Tradition and three of his paintings grace a new book titled Texas Tradition. His artworks have been featured in Art of the West, Focus Santa Fe, Southwest Art and other magazines. He was also featured in the book The Master Works of Distinguished Chinese Oil Painters, published in 2007.
Zhang has participated in the Prix de West Exhibition at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City. This year marks his debut participation in the Masters of the American West Fine Art Exhibition and Sale at the Autry National Center.
