Born in New Iberia, Louisiana and educated at the University of Chicago, Alyce Frank has lived in New Mexico since 1962. She has the kind of rare and deep connection to “place” that often takes generations to develop. She paints the cultivated fields along the Rio Grande, the Hondo River in spring flood, the jagged shapes of the last patches of snow on the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and the fall cottonwoods. Frequently she has traveled to the Grand Canyon, Canyon de Chelly and other parts west. Known for painting a red undercoat on the canvas, Frank’s paintings vibrate with joy and expression of love of “place.”
