Schmidt was a well-listed painter and muralist whose specialty were desert landscapes. He was born in Minnesota and died in San Bernardino, CA where he resided beginning in 1924. He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and was a member of the Laguna Beach Art Association, Los Angeles Art Association, and the San Bernardino County Art Association.
