Still regarded as one of the most important western stars ever, who did more than anyone else to make the adult, authentic western come into being, Hart created the strong, silent, physically accomplished mythic hero who uncompromisingly pursued and dispensed justice. A stickler for western realism, Hart made about 70 films during his brief and highly successful career. Hart's genuine love for the West and his memory of cowboys and Indians he had known in his youth were to set his Westerns apart from any other films of the genre before or after.
