Frank S. Coard (1886-1963)
James Coard (1891-1978)

Born in Kansas, Frank (1886) and James (1891) homesteaded with their mother in Kern County, California in 1912 and lived there all their lives making bits and spurs part time. The brothers interest extended naturally from their affection for horses which they bred and raised on the land. Frank and Jim used the same “crazy horse” brand that they applied to their equine stock front hooves for their maker-mark design on bits and spurs utilizing a series of dots stamped in the shape of a running horse. The brothers utilized silver inlays with exceptionally detailed engraving and generally took 2-3 months to fulfill an order.
