As a child living on a southern Idaho homestead, Newcomb discovered Indian artifacts in the fields he helped plow, inspiring his abiding interest in Native American culture.
After earning B A and M A degrees from California State University at Fullerton, Newcomb taught high school art for more than two decades. In the late 1990s, he decided to paint full-time, motivated by his desire to illuminate, through his art, glimpses of worlds that others might otherwise never encounter.
Newcomb’s gamble paid off: he now lives in Payson, Arizona, surrounded by prehistoric artifacts made by indigenous peoples of the American Southwest.
