“Big Duke” was well known as a performer doing trick riding, shooting and knife throwing with both Buffalo Bill’s Wild West and The Miller Bros 101 Show. He served on occasion as arena director for the 101 and later served as ringmaster for the Tom Mix circus. In 1915, Lee appeared with the 101 at the San Francisco Expo and thereafter remained in Hollywood, acting in dozens of films including some of the earliest silent movies, directed by a young John Ford, and one of the last being Ford’s classic production of Stagecoach. Over the years, Lee appeared with the greatest of western stars including Tom Mix, Hoot Gibson, Buck Jones, Jack Hoxie and Neal Hart.
