Born of German parents in South Africa, Paul Grimm came to the United States at age 7. Showing artistic talent at an early age, he was awarded a scholarship for study at Dusseldorf’s Royal Academy. In 1919, he moved to Hollywood, where he painted backdrops for movie studios, and in 1932, he settled permanently in Palm Springs opening a small studio gallery. Although Grimm painted scenes of the High Sierras, missions, and Indian portraits, his fame lies as a painter of the desert with its many moods.
